The Greenfield Expansion Project

Project Update: May 6, 2023

We surveyed 170 individuals living in the Wilmington and nearby areas. It is clear from our results that the majority of individuals would like Greenfield skate park to have a Street Plaza. We currently do not have any legal, free to access, street skating areas in Wilmington.

Our team at Friends of Wilmington Skateparks has been trying to work with the City of Wilmington on this but, it is not the city's priority right now. They also have a master plan in the works for Greenfield Lake Park as a whole. We are unsure of when they will unveil these details. In the meantime, we want to assure you, that we are doing everything we can on our end to make it happen!

We will continue to focus on community events that support our local skaters, such as the Greenfield Skate & Sweep, Go Skate Day, and the Fall Skate Film Festival. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns, or ideas! We love to hear from you all!

The expansion of Greenfield Grind Skatepark would be beneficial for the Wilmington community as it would provide a much-needed space for skateboarding enthusiasts. Currently, there are no free mini bowls or skate plazas within the city limits of Wilmington, which makes it difficult for skateboarders to practice and improve their skills. A new mini bowl or plaza at Greenfield Grind Skatepark would fill this gap and provide a safe, legal and accessible location for the local skateboarding community to gather and skate. Additionally, it would provide a recreational opportunity for the youth of Wilmington, and promote healthy and active lifestyle choices. Furthermore, it would boost the city's reputation for being a recreational destination, providing a new attraction for tourists, resulting in an economic benefit to the community.
